The ICC and Vox expand events team

The International Convention Centre (ICC) Birmingham and sister venue the Vox Conference Centre has expanded its events team with the addition of James Smith as a Technical Event Manager.

The International Convention Centre (ICC) Birmingham and sister venue the Vox Conference Centre has expanded its events team with the addition of James Smith as a Technical Event Manager.

James has joined the team with over ten years’ experience across a range of in-house and agency businesses, overseeing multiple projects across all phases of development. Prior to joining the NEC Group, James worked on events for up to 5000 delegates right through to delivering spectacular technical solutions for 40,000 spectators at Glastonbury.

Director of Event Services, Allan Boyle, said: “We are pleased to welcome James to the team. He has great experience across a number of sectors and we expect him to bring a fresh approach to events we hold at the ICC and the Vox.”

Senior Technical Event Manager Andy Gates said: “James has a fantastic background and our people are what make our venues stand out from our competitors; their combination of industry knowledge, skills and personality are key to retaining existing clients and bringing new business to the ICC and the Vox.”

In his new position, James will be responsible for bringing new and fresh ideas for clients’ events, concentrating on the latest media server and projector mapping technology, whilst also utilising super wide blended projection screens.

Commenting on his recent appointment James said: “I am thrilled to be part of the events team at the ICC and Vox, but also part of the NEC Group as the opportunities and experience offered are endless.”

“I have been working in the industry for over 10 years and I have a true passion for event management. This role gives me the opportunity to be creative whilst being part of exciting events I may not otherwise get to experience. I will also be utilising my creative skills and 3D mapping knowledge to produce visuals so clients can see what they will be getting at the planning stage.”

James added: “I’m looking forward to seeing what the role brings. It’s exciting to be part of a such a well-established team and to work with colleagues who are so respected in the industry.”
